Integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) easily into the framework curriculum

Future Perfect ABU teaches ESD by covering different aspects of the framework curriculum. It links them meaningfully in a narrative and conveys knowledge about sustainability and the circular economy in a holistic approach. Ready-to-use content and supplementary materials minimise preparation and follow-up time for teachers so that they can support the learners as learning coaches. The content and scope (20 - 50 lessons) can be flexibly adapted to the specific curricula of individual schools and to the individual preferences and needs of teachers.

to build up knowledge and skills that enable people to understand interrelationships, to find their way in the world as independent persons, to assume responsibility and to actively participate in social negotiation and design processes for an ecologically, socially and economically sustainable development - Framework curriculum for GE

Topics and competences

Future Perfect ABU imparts subject and methodological knowledge on ESD on the one hand and transversal/transversal key competences on the other - in particular the 4C competences. Future Perfect ABU is oriented towards the two learning areas of society and language & communication of the national framework curriculum for ABU. With regard to the learning area "Society", the online teaching aid completely covers the aspects of ecology and economy. But the aspects of technology, ethics, law and politics are also integral components and are meaningfully linked in a narrative. By promoting the 4K competences, the learning area "language and communication" is also indirectly deepened in all path points. Furthermore, Future Perfect ABU promotes collaboration among learners, critical thinking and creativity. In the following diagram you can see how Future Perfect ABU covers the framework curriculum. The fields/topics marked in colour are covered in the online teaching aid and linked to form a narrative. Through this linkage, Future Perfect ABU teaches education for sustainable development with a focus on the circular economy.

You can find out more about subject coverage, competences and didactics in the didactic-content concept of Future Perfect ABU.

From the linear economy to the circular economy

Circular economy is now seen as an important contribution to a more sustainable society. It is widely accepted because it strongly incorporates not only ecological and social but also economic aspects. As the name suggests, the basic idea here is to close material and energy cycles and thus use as few resources as possible. In contrast to the linear economy still common today, in the circular economy a resource is used for as long as possible. Longevity, but also reusability, are thus central.

Product life cycles

To ensure this, it is important to know and understand product life cycles. In every step of product production, use and reuse, the longest possible use of a resource must be considered. Products should therefore be durable, repairable and reusable. At the end of a product's life, the materials are recycled and thus made reusable. As far as possible, there is no waste of no value. At least the material value should be preserved and fed back into the cycle. Anything but simple, but urgently necessary!

Environmental and social compatibility combined with economic efficiency

The circular economy offers a great opportunity for the Swiss economy to expand the service sector, because the repair, redistribution and recycling of products require corresponding services. Thus, there is growth potential in circular economy principles - without increasing resource consumption. Many companies in Switzerland have already recognised this, as a result of which the demand for corresponding skills on the labour market is continuously increasing. Teaching these skills to apprentices is an important opportunity for our society to become more sustainable and at the same time increases the apprentices' chances of success on the labour market.

Future Perfect therefore focuses on circular economy: the different chapters are oriented towards the phases of a product life cycle and thus bring structure to the teaching programme.
