The two courses are aimed at teachers of general education (ABU). SFIVET developed their content together with Eartheffect, the education professionals for sustainability at upper secondary level. In the basic course, teachers deal with the theoretical foundations of sustainable development via a digital learning platform. They do this in self-study and move along learning paths that are close to everyday life, multimedia-based and can be individualised.
Examples from everyday life
Those who already have the technical fitness can go straight into the second course with a focus on concrete implementation in the classroom. Here, teachers get to know numerous digital tools that are especially suitable for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) (see box). In addition, they further develop their existing teaching materials according to the requirements of an action competence-oriented ESD: Cases, examples and situations from everyday life are dealt with in an interdisciplinary way and from a scientific, economic, social, political and cultural perspective. The learners thus develop the competence to uncover concepts of sustainability and (not yet) sustainable processes in their own everyday and professional life. They learn to develop practicable and at the same time well-balanced alternatives. This applies to private consumption as well as to professional life and the role as a citizen of a political community. Today's apprentices are the vocational trainers of the future. If they already develop effective and sustainable processes in their companies and professions during their training, they can already participate in the global Agenda 2030 - effectively, self-determined and constructively.
